Rejection of the part of me that is not at peace with has occurred. I will also reject the feelings that come with it, even though they are my feelings. Radical Self-Acceptance means accepting experiences of ourselves we may not like, feelings we don’t want to have, thoughts we push away.
The construction of the self is a social process. The child learning “No!” is the beginning of a true, solid boundary and barrier, although the process begins much earlier and is much more rudimentary. “No” is absolutely necessary to function in society as human being.
Valentine's Day! What a better day to delve into self-love and self-acceptance. We can look inward first to find love and then give it away. We get to ignore the messages society tells us about not being enough and needing something else to be complete.
